The Icarian Underground Evening Stole (1 of 1)
The Icarian Underground Evening Stole (1 of 1)
Material: Silk Chiffon. 100% silk. 24in wide x 92in long.
Edition: 1 of 1.
A limited edition silk scarf printed from an original oil painting by contemporary artist Dasha Bough. Featuring an illustration of a character from Bough’s in-production animated series. The three characters on this stole are performers in the illegal underground Icarian burlesque scene.
Note from Dasha: This scarf is my favorite one, and represents my most recent experiments and the likely direction of the next collection. When draped over a clothesline, the two competing characters on either end overlap in a strange and beautiful tangle of limbs and competing gestures. They merge into one being — one mess of humanness that is either a fight or an embrace, depending on which side of the scarf you are looking at. I simply love this piece and it will be hard to part with but I am excited for someone to have it and bring it to life in their own way. Xx Silk Rebel
The style of the piece pulls from two clashing worlds: the lush, flowing Ballets Russes look of Léon Bakst, mixed with the hard-edged, worker-driven Constructivism of Liubov Popova, Aleksandra Ekster, and Vladimir Tatlin.
Each scarf is a unique work of art that is part of an ongoing film and animation project by Dasha Bough.
